In just a few weeks I will be playing 2 roles in the forthcoming DE Caversmill production of Seussical the musical so I took aside the director to ask a few questions about it. Ladies and gentlemen please meet Ian Hill. The director of the craziness.
So Ian, I've been part of this group for 3 years and we did the musical Annie 2 years ago. And now for the 26th year DE Caversmill on her doing the Eric Idle fantastic ... Seussical. Let's have a chat... How was the audition process? The audition process for Seussical was different as each person who auditioned had 6 minutes to impress, either with songs or monlogues for different characters. This spooked a lot of people as they had never done an audition like this. But some people took their chance to impress on camera and live performance. I have to admit Ian, I walked in and personally although I know you I was still worried because this was a whole new experience. Got to admit.... loved it. Tell us a little bit about some of the cast? The juniors are amazing , I had the difficult job of selecting JOJO and YOUNG KANGAROO, this was really hard because they all have strengths and weaknesses....... but I have been impressed by the way they have worked together to make the roles there own. Will Bradley is new to the group and walked into the audition a star. He is narrating the events as The Cat In The Hat. You cannot take your eyes off his charismatic approach. JOJO is played by both Imogen Crowther and Ella Black....... both different but they bring something different to the role and these girls really wowed me. So in effect two different shows. YOUNG KANGAROO - Emily Durber, sass Queen....... she gives SOUR KANGAROO played by Melanie Fox Crowther a run for her money. WICKERSHAM BROTHERS - Antony Clowes , Gareth Roberts , Myles Lockley , Dan Dayle ( The crazy gang ) they bring fun and mayhem to the show , 3 of these are playing 2 roles so it will be a bigger challenge to pull it off so expect a lot of quick changes. Mayzie played by Siobhan Hammond and her Bird Girls bring the salsa element to the show, Gertrude McFuzz is played by Kirsty Heath bring a soft side at first to the musical but don't get on the wrong side of Kirsty as she has a temper. And Mayzie .... well what does she want to do with THAT egg. Rob Mills and Rebecca Mills a real life husband and wife playing on stage as husband wife as Mr and Mrs Mayor.... together this dynamic duo bring order in Whoville with all the who's and the Grinch played by the amazing Anthony Clowes. Ian, sounds like a stellar cast. What preparation did you make to put on this musical ?Selecting a musical can be a risky thing..... you can select a popular music which has been done loads of times or you can try something different, this has its on challenges. I have always liked Dr Seuss, so when i heard the music i was hooked right away. But would other people know what the musical is all about ? That has been the major problem, Trying to explain what the show is about and it is suitable for all ages, no just children. I even went to see the show in Cannock done by juniors, it did not have the fun appeal, and the crazy attitude of the Wickershams. You only get this by experience people. Well as a Wickersham, I promise to bring the fun appeal. What can the audience expect? Wacky, Crazy, Fun , Colorful and an emotional roller coaster as Horton takes you on an adventure. Seussical certainly promises to deliver. When is it on and where and at what time? 11th to 14th July 2018. Show starts at 715 pm, on the 14th we have a matinee at 215pm as well. How can we buy tickets? You can book you tickets on the Hotline numbers 01782 317151 or 01782 316299 or Face book via group page or the website www.decaversmilltheatre.co.uk Ticket prices are £12 for Adults and £10 for Concessions....... There is a further 10% discount on group bookings on the same night SO get booking because this should be a sell out. What is next? That's easy it's pantomime auditions on the 20th July 2018 for Dancers and 22nd July for Chorus and Principals. This year is Aladdin, and i'm sure there will be some new faces in different roles this year. People can email ian.hill807@ntlworld.com for an audition form I hear you have had some good news. Can you explain what it is ?Well we have just be charity registered. Because we fund raise to put our shows on, you think that’s nothing. But for the 25 years we have been going we have never charged a show fee, weekly or monthly subscription, hire cost , costume costs. We set the company up to give children the chance to sample drama and Theatre. That has been expanded to all. We put on pantomimes One Act plays Musicals Murder mystery nights Showcases and we also teach Drama to LAMDA standard , so the candidates can take exams and we don’t charge . Because we don’t charge doesn’t mean our shows are average, last year our Panto was the best Panto in district 3 of West Midlands, our juniors and youth won their sections in the local round of The All England One Act Play Festive. We pride ourselves on excellence and we push the bar higher and higher. So you need to see Seussical. Ladies and gentlemen that was our glorious leader Ian Hill in his fantastic interview in relation to the forthcoming musical Seussical. My recommendation is book tickets fast either by messaging me, or calling the tickets hotline. One thing for sure is we all promise that you're going to enjoy this musical extravaganza.
